Description

FAN7930 FAN7930C FAN7930B SOP-8 SMD

The FAN7930, FAN7930B, and FAN7930C series are active Power Factor Correction (PFC) controllers Packaged in a compact SOP-8 SMD surface-mount package, these chips operate in critical conduction mode (CRM) and utilize voltage-mode PWM control, meaning they do not require an input voltage-sensing network. This design minimizes internal power dissipation and optimizes efficiency, making them standard components in LCD/CRT TVs, power adapters, SMPS systems, and lighting ballasts.

Key Specifications & Features
  • Operating Voltage (\(V_{CC}\)): Typically ranges from a minimum threshold of 13V up to an absolute maximum input of 20V–24V.
  • Peak Gate Drive Current: +500mA sourcing and -800mA sinking capacity to directly control power MOSFETs.
  • Internal Protection Matrix: Fully integrated over-voltage protection (OVP), open-feedback loop protection, and cycle-by-cycle MOSFET over-current protection (OCP).
  • Performance Optimization: Features an internal Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) optimizer alongside an integrated 150μs internal startup timer.
SOP-8 Pinout Configuration

Pin Number Pin Name Functional Description
1 INV Inverting input of the error amplifier; expects a resistively divided 2.5V reference from the PFC output.
2 OVP Dedicated input tracking secondary over-voltage anomalies if the primary INV pin system fails.
3 COMP Output terminal of the transconductance error amplifier used for frequency compensation.
4 CS Current sense input linked to a low-value source resistor to monitor MOSFET over-current thresholds.
5 ZCD Zero-current detection input triggering the external power MOSFET when inductor energy reaches zero.
6 GND System ground; data sheets note that logic and power paths should be physically isolated on the layout.
7 OUT Totem-pole gate driver output node providing rapid turn-on and turn-off pulses to the boost switch.
8 VCC Core operating supply voltage feed supplying both control circuitry and gate drive current.
